Kelly Ripa and her husband Mark Consuelos welcomed a cute little pup, named Chewie, into their family in December 2016. The couple adopted the Shih-Pom puppy from PAWS animal rescue in New York City. A Shih-Pom is a hybrid breed, a combination of a Shih Tzu and a Pomeranian. The mix was one of the cutest puppies Kelly had ever seen—so much so that she took him home with her that day!
Chewie grows noticeably bigger every day, now he’s more than 3 years old and his weight has almost doubled since he joined their home. He loves playing fetch, splashing about in water dishes, and getting plenty of cuddles from his parents. Kelly Ripa shared photos of Chewie weekly on social media when he was first adopted—and continues to do so now for everyone who’s followed along via #ChewbaccaTheDog on Instagram . Nowadays you can see friends teasing “What would Chewie do” or “WWCD” on social media challenges.
